Easy to Use – No Cord, Maintenance or Mixing Fuel

DCBL720B blowing leaves off a deckThe DCBL720B (or DeWalt DCBL720P1 as the version with battery and charger is named) is currently one of the most powerful cordless blowers you can get – mostly thanks to the brushless motor which brings more torque, less noise and longer motor life than a classical engine.

It’s not particularly cheap but its advantages clearly outweigh that. The build quality and durability are on a top level, as other cordless tools it’s really easy to use and there are no starting, fuel or maintenance issues – you just insert the battery and press the trigger. Also, no messing with an extension cord that gets stuck all the time.

It’s not heavy or too loud, the balance (with the battery below the handle) is nice, plus the battery holder also serves for sitting down when not in use.

Large Tube, Air Intake At the Back

Unlike many blowers which offer a narrow nozzle and air intake on the side or at the bottom, the DeWalt XR Brushless uses an axial fan design with a large tube (3.5 inches in diameter). The air intake at the back helps to maximize power – and also grabs your pants occasionally, but that’s not a big problem 🙂

The wide nozzle unleashes a large air mass (400 CFM) but at a slower speed (only 90 mph) – and that presents an advantage and disadvantage as well. It makes this unit very effective for blowing away dry dirt, debris and leaves, especially on hard surfaces like driveways, sidewalks, decks, trailer interiors or garages. The output covers a large area and the cleaning is much faster compared to other cordless blowers.

On the other hand, the large tube and lower speed doesn’t enable concentrating the power into one spot which makes it less effective against stickier debris. Also, don’t expect a performance of gas machines – it simply doesn’t have enough power for wet or deeply layered leaves.

Variable Trigger – Very Useful

A great feature is the variable trigger – you can control the power easily just by pressing it less or more and also lock the speed so no further holding of the trigger is necessary.

This system works a lor better than the on/off+turbo button+thumbwheel on GreenWorks 24322 for example. No pushing of several buttons to get a full throttle, just pressing a trigger.

Also, you would appreciate it whenever you need a gentler air flow, for example when working near flowers or when you need to gather leaves without sending them flying around. Plus it enables even quick bursts of air instead of a continuous stream (watch the video above at 1:56).

Great Battery Working Time

Another advantage of the DeWalt 20V blower is the battery system. The 5ah battery offers very good run time (20 minutes on full blast) and the recharge is fast as well – about one hour.

As with other lithium batteries, the power doesn’t fade – and there’s also a 3 LEDs indicator of remaining power.

And of course, it’s compatible with other DeWalt 20-Volt power tools.

Conclusion: If you need a blower with solid power and don’t want to deal with an electric cord, the DEWALT DCBL720B would be a great choice. It’s more pricey but top quality and with many advantages – we can definitely recommend it.

However, if you need a vacuum and mulcher as well, take a look at the GreenWorks 24322.

Also, it doesn’t have enough power for hard jobs so if that’s what you need, the gas powered units are the way to go.

Frequently asked questions:

How should I treat the battery to ensure maximum lifetime?

Always store the batteries inside your house in reasonable temperatures – never leave them on direct sun or outdoors during winter! It is also advisable to recharge the battery as soon as it is out of power.

Is a charger included?

If you get the version with a battery included, a charger is present as well.

Are there any accessories I should buy?

Most likely not, only if you have a large yard, you might consider a spare battery.

Is there any maintenance needed?

No, the motor is an enclosed unit so no maintenance is required. Just ensure a proper care to the battery (see above) and clean the machine from debris and dirt.
