Easy to Use but Heavier

blowing leaves from patioThe GBL80300 (or GreenWorks 80320 as the bare-tool version is named) belongs to the new line of leaf blowers equipped with a brushless motor (which brings more torque, less noise and longer motor life than a classical engine). With an axial design to enhance the power even more, GreenWorks describe it as a complete gas equivalent – without the disadvantages of gasoline tools like maintenance, inhaling fumes, mixing fuel or starting.

It’s easy to use and not loud, only (partly due to the huge battery) heavier and larger than electric units – so it’s not as convenient for storage and you’ll probably have to switch your hands while using it (or hold the handle in one hand and the back of the unit with the other). A shoulder strap would probably help.

Nevertheless, it’s well balanced, the grip is comfortable, assembly very simple and most importantly – there is no extension cord to deal with, you have a complete freedom of movement.

Great Power and Variable Speed

With 125 mph and 500 CFM it’s the most powerful cordless blower at this moment – still not as strong as quality gas machines but very close. Therefore, most cleaning jobs are not a problem, from a basic cleanup around your house to moving big piles of leaves, clearing gutters or drying your car after washing.

Besides the on/off button there are also 3 speed settings and a trigger to fine-tune the power even more – that’s quite a lot of controllers (when compared to one adjustable throttle of the Dewalt DCBL720B for example) but it works well.

The on/off and speed selector

The low setting is perfect for delicate tasks like maintaining flowerbeds or for indoor use such as cleaning your garage. The medium level can deal with any kind of debris on hard surfaces like decks, sidewalks or driveways and can be used on dry leaves on grass as well – and the high speed manages the rest: stickier debris, large piles of leaves or even wet stuff.

The only mentioned problem is the 2-second delay after pulling the trigger (according to GreenWorks to allow the sensor to reset itself) – but that’s not a big drawback.

Long Battery Working Time

The battery is one of the biggest advantages of this blower – users report run time between 20-70 minutes (depending on selected speed) which is pretty awesome. Plus the recharge is also fast, about 30 minutes for the 2ah battery – so you probably wouldn’t need a spare one (good news since it is pretty expensive).

Just make sure you remove the battery from the charger after recharge (or unplug the charger), otherwise the battery can be damaged. Also, a few users experienced some problems with charging, one reported it worked when he hanged the charged upright on the wall.

As with other lithium batteries, the power doesn’t fade – and there’s even a 3 LEDs indicator of remaining power. Also, the GBL80300 comes as a part of the GreenWorks Pro 80V Li-Ion MAX system – so if you acquire the chainsaw, lawn mower or other tools from this lineup, the battery is compatible with all of them.

Conclusion: If you need a powerful blower and don’t want to deal with an electric cord or disadvantages of gas machines, the GreenWorks GBL80300 would be a great choice. It’s quite pricey but offers excellent power and many other advantages – we can definitely recommend it.

On the other hand, if you need only a basic sweeper for lighter tasks, there are much cheaper and lighter models. And it doesn’t offer a vacuum or mulcher – if that’s what you need take a look here.

Also, considering air speed and volume it is still slightly behind quality gas blowers – so if you need top power, those are the way to go.

Frequently asked questions:

How should I treat the battery to ensure maximum lifetime?

Always store the batteries inside your house in reasonable temperatures – never leave them on direct sun or outdoors during winter! It is also advisable to recharge the battery as soon as it is out of power. And don’t leave the battery in charger after it’s recharged! (or leave it in but unplug the charger)

Is a charger included?

If you get the version with a battery included, a charger is present as well.

Are there any accessories I should buy?

Most likely not, only if you have a large yard, you might consider a spare battery.

Is there any maintenance needed?

No, the motor is an enclosed unit so no maintenance is required. Just ensure a proper care to the battery (see above) and clean the machine from debris and dirt.
