Handling and reach

using the PS250The PS250 offers most of the traditional advantages of cordless pole pruners – it’s quiet, easy to use and there are no vibrations; also, you are not limited by dragging a power cord and there’s no fuel mixing typical for gas machines.

Some users complained that the assembly manual isn’t helpful at all and it takes quite a long time to put this tool together – so if you run into any trouble, watch the video in the FAQ section below and the assembly shouldn’t take you more than 10 minutes.

Holding the pole is very comfortable, the shaft feels sturdy and solid and there is no flexing. The tool-free telescopic system lets you choose your preferred length, slightly over 10 feet maximum which means you’ll be able to reach branches up to around 14 feet from the ground.

When compared to the classical cordless units for occasional use, it’s considerable heavier – so some strength is required if you intend to use for longer pruning sessions. On the other hand, both the motor and battery are located at the bottom which gives this tool a great balance – and the included shoulder strap helps as well.

Power

The 40V battery gives this machine a lot of power – it cuts smaller branches like butter and has no problems even with 4″-6″ thick ones (see the videos above). Just don’t try to push it against the limb, you’ll only bind the saw – let its weight and gravity do the work.

It features an automatic oiler and users don’t report any problem – just fill the small reservoir, make sure the chain is tightened and you are good to go.

Charge level indicator

Battery

The Oregon pole saw uses a 40V lithium-ion battery, you can buy either a bare tool, a 4 Ah (recommended) or 2.4 Ah battery pack. The running time is very solid, users report 1 hour or even more (with the 4 Ah) so you probably would be able to do all your pruning on a single charge. And the battery takes about 2 hours to fully recharge.

A nice feature is the light indicator showing the approximate amount of juice left. Plus, the battery is interchangeable with other quality Oregon 40V tools – a string trimmer, blower, chainsaw or hedge trimmer.

Conclusion:  If you need a high quality pole saw for more frequent use and pruning a lot of trees, the Oregon PS250 is a great choice for you – powerful and with a long battery running time, we can definitely recommend it

However, if you want to use it only occasionally, it would be probably too expensive for your needs – so in that case we would rather recommend you the lighter and cheaper Black & Decker LPP120.

Frequently asked questions:

How to assemble it?
   Show Video
How should I treat the battery to ensure maximum lifetime?

Always store the batteries inside your house in reasonable temperatures – never leave them on direct sun or outdoors during winter! Also recharge the battery as soon as it is out of power.

Are there any accessories I should buy?

A small bottle of chain oil is included, but we would advise you to get some more, for example this one. The battery lasts long so you won’t probably need a spare one.

Is there any maintenance needed?

Make sure the chain is tightened and fill the oil reservoir when it becomes empty. The motor is an enclosed unit so no maintenance is required – just ensure a proper care to the battery (see above).
