Compact Foot-Operated Splitter
The Quality Craft Foot Operated Splitter offers an interesting concept – a small, lightweight and portable tool that you can use at home or take with you and split wood wherever you need. It’s perfect for camping, field work or cookouts.
There is some assembly required, but nothing complicated, and once you get the hang of it it’s very easy to use. You just need to set the foot lever at the right height, stomp you foot a few times and then easily pull the log apart using your hands.
For Small or Medium Logs
Considering its power, don’t expect miracles, this tool simply can’t be compared to hydraulic splitters and you would not want to split an entire cord of wood with it.
But it works great with small and medium logs (let’s say up to 8" in diameter), particularly if they are dry. Wet limbs are still manageable, the only real problem is knotty wood. Also do not try too hard to split anything the tool has obvious trouble with as you can bend some of the parts.
Users mentioned it’s perfect for those limbs that are hard to hit right with a hatchet – or for making some kindling at home on a cold day when you just don’t want to move out to the woodshed and use an axe.
Negatives
Most users were satisfied with the build quality and how sturdy this tool is – however, some also reported a few issues, for example that some parts kept on loosening and falling off.
Also, with the repeated up-and-down movement, sometimes the log falls off before the actual split – which can get a bit frustrating.
Conclusion: The Quality Craft Foot-Operated Log Splitter is a great tool for camping or home use. If you need to tackle only small or medium logs and would appreciate the compact size and portability, we can recommend it to you.
Just don’t expect it to substitute a much more expensive hydraulic splitter – if you want to deal with plenty of wood or logs thicker than 8", check out the electric Boss Industrial ES7T20 (or the manual splitter Sun Joe LJ10M if you would like something not as expensive).
