Compact, Lightweight and Easy to Use

the Toro Power Sweep in actionToro 51585 Power Sweep is a nice little tool that will make cleaning your walkways, decks or garage a lot easier, faster and more fun.

The compact size is its biggest advantage – it’s really small and lightweight so your arms won’t get tired and it’s great for women or seniors as well. Plus very convenient for storing.

As other electric units it’s also very easy to use and there’s almost no assembly required – you just snap the tube on, connect the extension cable and you’re ready.

The noise level is reasonable, it’s inexpensive and build quality is good as well (users report many years of service) – the only disadvantage is the electric cord which gets tangled or caught sometimes and forces you to work in a proximity of an electric outlet.

Enough Power for Lighter Tasks

But even if it looks like a toy, it offers a decent power – more than enough for all those frequent light jobs where you don’t want to mess with heavier units.

You can think about it as an electric broom – perfect for cleaning all kinds of debris, dirt, leaves or dust from sidewalks, driveway, patio, decks, garage etc. Clearing gutters, spider webs off the walls or drying your car after washing isn’t a problem neither.

The on/off and speed selector

Considering leaves on grass, it can be definitely used for rounding the leaves into piles – if they are dry. But the power is simply not enough for leaves that are wet or mounded in a deeper layer.

2 Speeds – Useful Feature

A nice feature is the ability to choose from two speeds – 130 and 160 mph. When the faster option is too strong for some delicate tasks like blowing leaves out of flower beds, you just switch to the lower setting (which also gives you more control.)

Only the selector (located on the handle) is a bit touchy and switches too easily so it’s possible to accidentally set the wrong speed – but that’s not a big deal.

Cord Lock

The 51585 also comes equipped with a cord lock to prevent disconnecting – to use it, just create a loop at the end of the cord, thread it through the noose at the back of the unit and attach it to the plastic hook (see the picture below).

Conclusion:  If you need a compact, lightweight and inexpensive blower mostly for lighter jobs like cleaning your sidewalks, decks or garage and don’t mind dealing with an electric cord, the Toro 51585 would be a great choice for you. We can definitely recommend it.

It can deal even with dry leaves on grass, but for more difficult tasks we would rather recommend you the more powerful electric or even gas units. Also, it isn’t equipped with a vacuum and mulcher.

Frequently asked questions:

Are there any accessories I should buy?

If you don’t have an extension cord yet, you’re going to need one. The blower is 7 Amp which means both 50 feet or 100 feet 16/3 are acceptable.

Is there any maintenance needed?

No, the motor is an enclosed unit so no maintenance is required. Just clean the machine from debris and dirt.
