Handling and reach

the reach of the LPP120The LPP 120 comes with all the advantages of cordless pole pruners – it’s lightweight, quiet and easy to operate, even for older people. Also, you are not limited by dragging a power cord and there’s no fuel mixing typical for gas machines.

It’s very easy to put together, the instructions are clear and easy to understand. You can choose between using only 2 or all 3 pieces of the pole to get the length you need – 6-1/2 or 10 feet. So after adding your height, you can reach approximately up to 14 feet from the ground.

While the shorter version is really easy and comfortable to handle (you can also use it for cutting the branches into pieces on the ground), the fully extended one becomes a little more difficult to manage, as the poles bend slightly and the weight shifts farther from you. But not a big problem.

Power

Users agree this machine works really well and has enough power. It’s not designed for heavy pruning of course, but it handles 4″ branches quite easily and can deal even with 6-7″ thick ones.

So while it doesn’t have the power of corded or gas tools, the extra low weight and possibility to be easily moved around your garden makes it ideal for occasional homeowner use.

Cutting on the ground as well

Also, don’t remember to tension and oil the chain (it doesn’t have a push-button oiler) – read more in the FAQ section below.

Battery

The LPP 120 uses a lightweight 20V lithium-ion battery which is also interchangeable with other Black&Decker 20V tools – so if you have some other machines from this lineup, you probably already have some spare batteries.

Speaking of the running time, users report 20-30 minutes of constant use, about 1 hour non-continually or 60 smaller branches per one battery. The recharge takes a couple of hours so if you need to do a lot of pruning, consider buying a spare battery.

Conclusion:  If you want quality and lightweight pole saw that is very easy to use and offers a decent power, Black & Decker LPP120 is the right choice for you. We highly recommend it.

However, it is still intended mainly for occasional homeowner use – for heavy pruning, consider these tools.

Frequently asked questions:

How should I treat the battery to ensure maximum lifetime?

Always store the batteries inside your house in reasonable temperatures – never leave them on direct sun or outdoors during winter! Also recharge the battery as soon as it is out of power.

The manual says you can leave the battery in the charger once is recharged; however, we would still rather advise you to remove it. But if you forget it there, no problem.

What is included in the package?

The pole chainsaw itself, 1 battery, charger, blade guard, small oil bottle and a wrench for chain tightening.

Are there any accessories I should buy?

If you plan to use the saw a lot, we recommend getting a spare battery.

Is there any maintenance needed?

You can find all necessary information in the manual – you’ll need adjust the chain tension (very easy to do, just remember you’ll probably have to do it quite often during the first few hours of use) and also oil the chain (every time you change the battery or before each use).

The motor is an enclosed unit so no maintenance is required. Just ensure a proper care to the battery (see above).
