The WeedEater W25CFK is an inexpensive gas string trimmer mainly for medium difficulty tasks – it’s lightweight (for a gas unit) and with enough power. Its main disadvantage is that there is no line feed – you have to manually insert pre-cut strings.

Pros:
  • Lightweight
  • Not expensive
Cons:
  • Manual line feeding
  • Several other mentioned problems
Key specifications:

Gas powered

easy starting of the W25CFKThe W25CFK shares all the advantages of gas weed whackers – solid power, complete freedom of movement, no messing with the cord (and winding it up after trimming) or switching outlets. Also you are not limited by battery life.

On the other hand, it requires mixing the gas-oil fuel and a little maintenance. But good news is that it’s one of the lightest gas trimmers on the market – weighs only about 8.5 lbs, just the balance is not ideal.

It’s easy to put together, you’ll be able to start trimming just a few minutes after you unpack it.

Power

Please note it’s not a commercial grade unit by any means – it’s designed rather for medium-duty use or even cleanup. So while it’s great for trimming grass and weeds around your lawn, near fence lines or around trees, it’s not as suitable for cutting down tall weeds or clearing vines and saplings.

Most users report it starts quite easily, you just prime the bulb and pull.

Problems

The main disadvantage of this model is the absence of bump-feed – you have to manually insert pre-cut lines into the head. That’s pretty easy to do, but since there is no spool, you have to do it again once the line gets shorter – which gets quite annoying.

Some users also mention several other issues – that the head keeps falling off or even that the unit stops after few minutes of work and then keeps dying (on the other hand, the question is if it’s caused by a manufacturing defect or incorrect use).

Conclusion:  If you are looking for a gas trimmer that won’t ruin your budget, the WeedEater W25CFK can be a good choice.

On the other hand, there are much better models (for example the Tanaka TCG22EASSLP), but also the price is higher. Or you can consider an alternative – the cordless LST136W from Black&Decker.

Frequently asked questions:

What kind of fuel is required?

The machine is 2-cycle so a mix of gas and oil (50:1) is required. We recommend using a non-ethanol blended, high octane gas and for example this oil (which also enables easy measuring of the ratio).

Or you can always buy a premixed fuel if you don’t want to do it yourself.

Is there any maintenance needed?

Gas powered string trimmers require some additional upkeep like cleaning the air filter or adding stabilizer to the fuel for winter storage – please read our guide or refer to the user manual for more info.
