Lightweight, Quiet and Easy to Use
The LST300 is a perfect trimmer for a small garden or a typical suburban lawn. It’s cordless so no hassle with an electric cord, you get a complete freedom of movement. Also, there is no fuel mixing or maintenance typical for gas machines.
The assembly is simple, you just install the handle and guard and you’re ready to go. You can also adjust the length of the shaft and angle of the handle. And as you would expect from a cordless tool, it’s lightweight and quiet.
For Lighter Trimming and Edging
Don’t expect the power of a $200 gas weed whacker. This model is designed for trimming hard-to-reach areas after mowing and for edging along sidewalks and flower beds – not for clearing dense overgrown grass.
Unfortunately, you cannot modify the cutting speed – but at this price level that has to be expected.
To enter the edging mode, you just unlock the shaft, turn it and lock again – very easy and done in a few seconds. There is no wheel to help you keep the desired distance from the ground, but that’s not a big problem, that small metal guard helps with that.
Also, you won’t have to bump with it to advance the line, the LST300 uses an autofeed. Most users didn’t mention any problems with it; however, two customers reported that within an hour of use, the plastic piece controlling the advancing of the line broke, making the trimmer useless.
20-Volt Battery with Solid Run Time
The LST300 comes with a 2.0 amp-hour 20-Volt battery – it slides in and can be released easily and of course it’s compatible with other Black+Decker 20V tools.
It offers a decent working time, users report between 20-30 minutes, only the recharge could have been faster, it takes a few hours. So for a larger yard, a spare battery would be necessary.
Conclusion: If you need a quality string trimmer for your garden but don’t want to spend a lot of money, the Black+Decker LST300 would be a great choice for you – lightweight, very easy to use and with a solid battery working time. We can definitely recommend it.
However, don’t expect to perform some heavy trimming with it, it’s designed mostly for cleanup and edging – for larger areas, tough weeds or tall grass gas machines (or cordless with brushless motor) are the way to go.
