  • none significant

Handling and reach

pruning a tree using the Earthwise pole sawThe CVPS41008 has all the pros and cons of electric pole pruners – it’s quite cheap, quiet, very easy to use (push button start and only a little maintenance), you don’t have to mix any fuel and aren’t limited by batteries. On the other hand, you have to drag a power cord to all places where you’d like to use it.

Despite the almost useless manual, it is very easy to put together – just make sure you are putting the chain in the right direction (there is a little diagram embossed on the plastic that will help you). The pole is telescopic and has a solid maximum length of 9.6 feet which means you’ll be able to reach approximately up to 13 feet from the ground (depending on your height).

It is fairly light and easy to operate, the balance is also good – so not fatiguing and comfortable to use even for a longer period of time. But as other pole chain saws, it becomes quite unwieldy when used at full extension.

Also, there seems to be a mistake in the description on Amazon – the head is not adjustable to different cutting angles.

Power and removable chainsaw

Of course, don’t expect a gas performance from the 6 Amp motor, but it has plenty of power for what it’s intended to do. 6″ limbs are not a problem and you can even remove the chainsaw and use it separately, which makes this tool perfect for all smaller cutting jobs – pruning trees and then cutting the fallen branches for firewood

That’s a big advantage and (as you can see in the reviews) users love it. The switching is very easy – can be done in 10 seconds – and while the bar length and power isn’t great, it’s still much better than taking a big saw just for these small limbs. And just a note: a similar feature is used also by Remington electric pole saws. those even have more power and longer bar; however, that also makes them more head-heavy when used on the pole.

The chain would need to be tightened up after a few hours which is easy to do, users only report the design of the oil reservoir is not good – when being filled, the reading of the amount is not visible.

Conclusion:  If you want an inexpensive pole saw for cutting branches up to 6″ thick and don’t mind using a power cord, Earthwise CVPS41008 is the right choice for you. Easy to use, with enough power and a removable chain saw – we can definitely recommend it.

However, if you need to deal with larger limbs, get rather the Remington RM1025SPS or even some gas powered machine.

Frequently asked questions:

Are there any accessories I should buy?

If you don’t have a long extension cord yet, go with the Coleman 100 feet cable.

Also, you would need some oil for the chain (it’s not included) – for example this one.

Is there any maintenance needed?

You’ll need adjust the chain tension if needed (easy to do) and also fill the oil reservoir when it becomes empty. The motor is an enclosed unit so no maintenance is required.
