Gas log splitters offer more power than electric units, don’t require an electric outlet nearby but they are also considerably more expensive.
Unfortunately, at this moment there are only two models with at least some reviews on Amazon – so here they are, with ratings, prices and reviews:
Compact: A gas wood splitter for home use – offers a good power but it’s still easy to move around, transport or store.
Heavy-duty: A professional gas splitter with excellent power. And you can also convert it into a vertical position if you would prefer that.
As we have written in the intro above, gas powered log splitters would allow you to deal with larger pieces of wood – and more quickly. While electric units offer about 7 tons of splitting force at most, the gas machines can go much higher in this regard. So if you need to deal with hardwood or large amount of logs, they would be your best bet.
You can also take them into the woods or use them at your cabin even if there’s no electricity, you don’t have to deal with an extension cord. On the other hand, they need a proper ventilation during use – so you won’t be able to split wood in your garage or indoors.
