The Chapin 20002 is a cheap 2-gallon handheld sprayer. It’s very easy to use and offers a decent pressure, on the other hand the cheap plastic parts do not provide ideal durability.
Pros:
- Easy to use
- Fairly compact and easy to carry
- Cheap
Cons:
- No pressure relief valve
- Lower quality pump and wand
2-Gallon Handheld Tank
The Chapin 20002 comes with a 2-gallon tank – translucent and with markings so you can see the fluid level easily. Only the markings are a bit harder to read so we would advice you to make them clearer using a marker.
The opening is not that large but includes a funnel so filling is easy and you don’t have to worry about spilling chemicals. And the in-tank filter against clogging the wand is present as well.
Thanks to the handle it’s easy to carry around or even shake the entire tank to mix the liquid. The grip is comfortable and even when full, the sprayer is not too heavy.
Most users praised the tank quality and reported no leak or rupture – but still there were a few who experienced some kind of leak, either right from the start or after some time.
Easy to Use but Lower Quality Pump and Wand
The spraying itself is really easy. The pumping doesn’t require much force, builds enough pressure with only a few pumps and then lasts for a few minutes.
The sprayer provides a decent pressure, users reported reaching about 10′ or more using the stream – enough even for some higher areas on your trees or house.
On the other hand, many users complained about the quality and durability of the pump and wand. Unlike the tank, they’re made from cheap plastic and are a bit fragile.
Only 1 Nozzle
The 20002 comes with only one nozzle, adjustable from a stream to fine mist. That is okay for a sprayer this basic – but not ideal of course, especially a fan shape tip would help.
Also, there is no spray lock (you have to hold the trigger all the time) and a pressure relief valve is missing as well. So before opening the tank make sure to release all pressure, otherwise the liquid may burst away.
Final Thoughts
Concerning the overall durability, customer opinions vary a bit. Some report the sprayer stopped working after some time or that it wasn’t able to hold pressure anymore after 6 months. On the contrary some haven’t experienced any problem during the first 8 months or a year.
Nevertheless, the cheaper materials keep the price fairly low so you can get a few of these to avoid cross-contamination (for example using 1 sprayer for a fertilizer, 1 for herbicide etc.).
Conclusion: If you are searching for a cheap garden sprayer, the Chapin 20002 may be a good choice. However, the lower-quality parts limit its durability – so if you don’t really need that extra gallon, we would rather recommend you the one-gallon Chapin 20000 which is even cheaper.
On the other hand, even the 2-gallon tank isn’t ideal for medium or larger projects – if that’s what you need, a quality backpack sprayer would be a better choice.

Frequently asked questions:
Should I get this 2-gallon or the 1-gallon version?
If you don’t care about the price difference, get this 2-gallon model – the size footprint isn’t that large and you can always fill only half of it.
On the other hand, the lower price of the 1-gallon version enables you to get more units to prevent cross-contamination of your chemicals. Also, if the pump or wand stops working properly, replacing the unit will be considerably cheaper.
Does it come with a carrying strap??
No, it doesn’t.
